Roundup WeatherMAX™ * is for annual weeds, too. For tough winter annuals, transplants and micro-annuals - those tiny weeds that escape detection - Roundup WeatherMAX is an ideal solution to many annual weed problems.
Just .67L/ac of Roundup WeatherMAX before planting can give you better control of annual weeds than tillage. Plus you'll control many of your toughest perennials - like quackgrass and dandelion - at the same time.
Opportunities To Use Roundup WeatherMAX For Annual Weed Control In The Spring
Long-term Effects of Roundup-Ready Compared to Conventional Herbicide Systems in Ontario
A Cleaner Seedbed
Controlling annual weeds before planting is crucial for high yield in any crop. Using Roundup WeatherMAX in a pre-plant burn-off is often a better option than tillage. You'll control big winter annuals like Canada fleabane, prickly lettuce, chickweed and stinkweed that are too tough to control effectively with tillage.
Control Winter Annuals
Big winter annuals are often difficult to control with tillage. They start growing early in the spring and have large root systems that cling to the soil. Not only do winter annual escapes look unsightly, but they can rapidly steal moisture and nutrients from the crop.
Transplants, too
During tillage or planting, annual weeds can be transplanted. These transplanted weeds, because they are farther advanced than the emerging crop, provide serious competition and yield loss.
With Roundup WeatherMAX pre-plant, you'll control annual weed transplants that get moved around - but not killed - by tillage.
And Roundup WeatherMAX makes short work of the micro-annuals that your cultivator misses - the ones that "pop-up" ahead of your crop.
Annual Weed Competition in Min- and No-till
In minimum tillage and no-till tillage planting systems, annual weeds compete strongly with the crop. Cutting back on tillage leaves annual weeds free to grow. Left untreated prior to planting, annual weeds can rapidly get ahead of the crop resulting in lost yield.
Farmers with experience in min-till say that getting the crop off to a fast, clean start is essential. Used as a replacement for tillage, Roundup WeatherMAX can save time and be more economical than tillage. Even when quackgrass is not present, a Roundup WeatherMAX application will pay for itself, just with annual weed control.
Spray and Plant the Same Day
With Roundup WeatherMAX, you can spray annual weeds and plant the same day. If you're also treating quackgrass and dandelions, you should delay tillage for three days after spraying. What's more, you can seed shallower - because you don't have to work your soil as deep to control weeds - so you'll get better seed germination, too.
Annual Grasses and Roundup WeatherMAX (0.67 L/ac)
Annual Broadleaf and Roundup WeatherMAX (0.67 L/ac)
Annual weeds cause many problems for growers in Eastern Canada. With Roundup WeatherMAX, controlling annual weeds is an ideal way to get the crop off to a fast, clean start. Below are general recommendations:
Rate
Use .67 to 1.0 litre per acre. *
Time Of Application
Roundup WeatherMAX can be used to control annual weeds any time in the spring prior to planting or after planting any time up to crop emergence. Since Roundup WeatherMAX does not provide residual control, if you cannot plant within several days of annual weed burnoff, a second application may be necessary prior to planting to control emerging annual weeds. For post-plant burn-off of annual weeds, waiting 2 - 3 days after planting until weeds fully emerge is generally recommended.
Planting And Tillage interval
Spray Roundup WeatherMAX for annual weed control and plant the same day. If quackgrass or other perennial weeds are present, wait 3 days (72 hours) before tillage.
Roundup WeatherMAX with Transorb 2 Technology is the preferred formulation for customers who want a high level of control and consistency in ideal and tough conditions.
Growers across the prairies told us they benefited from the product for its:
The difference in Roundup WeatherMAX is Transorb 2 Technology. Transorb 2 Technology penetrates the weed leaf within minutes and drives all that power down into the roots. Giving you the confidence to spray when conditions are ideal, and when they are not. Transorb 2 Technology drives the active ingredient into the leaf faster than ever before- speeding a lethal dose past the leaf surface before weather conditions ca affect it. So fast, that Roundup WeatherMAX is the first to be backed with a 30 minute Rainfastness Guarantee.
Now you have more power that you've ever had before in all conditions.
On a dollar per dollar basis, is Roundup WeatherMAX more valuable than Roundup Ultra?
Roundup WeatherMAX is a better product and of more value to farmers on a dollar per dollar basis compared to any other non-selective product available today. Better, more consistent weed control and the bets rainfastness available, along with unmatched flexibility in packaging and service are the key reasons.
Does Roundup WeatherMAX include a surfactant?
Like all the products in the Roundup family, Roundup WeatherMAX is a "fully loaded" product and additional surfactant is not typically required.
What kind of performance does Roundup WeatherMAX show on tough weeds like dandelion?
Since Roundup WeatherMAX is a new product, most of the research work has been concentrated on key indicator weed species - for annuals, wild oats were used and quackgrass was used for perennials. On both species, Roundup WeatherMAX delivered better and more consistent weed control versus either Roundup Ultra or Touchdown. Limited data for other weed species including dandelion indicate similar trends.
Since Roundup WeatherMAX has translocation ability, do I have to be concerned with complete coverage when spraying weeds?
While Roundup WeatherMAX has excellent translocation abilities, direct contact with an adequate amount of spray, will ensure Roundup WeatherMAX translocates throughout the plant for total control. Use proper spray equipment. Make sure application equipment is properly calibrated and tank, hoses and nozzles are clean. On the other hand, to avoid waste, be careful not to spray weed foliage to the point of run-off. Adjust the boom height so the spray overlap occurs at the top of the foliage.
Are there any special mixing instructions for Roundup WeatherMAX?
Roundup mixes readily with water, has no odor, and will not foam excessively if you place the filling hose below the surface of the liquid solution.
Should I be concerned about the water that I use to spray with?
Yes. Make sure you use clean water - reduced results can occur if you use water containing soil, such as water from ponds and unlined ditches. If you are using hard water (more than 500 ppm of calcium or magnesium), reduce water volumes to 5 - 10 gpa or increase the rate of Roundup WeatherMAX. Talk to your local retailer or call the Monsanto CustomCare® line toll-free at 1-800-667-4944.
Why is it important to apply Roundup WeatherMAX during good growing conditions and to avoid applications during drought?
Since glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup WeatherMAX, employs a weed's own metabolic system to translocate throughout the plant, some weeds may be less susceptible to Roundup WeatherMAX, especially under extreme drought, which can slow down their rate of growth. These conditions are less likely to occur under reduced-till planting practices where moisture is usually present.
If a frost occurs, can I still spray Roundup WeatherMAX?
After light frosts, you can still apply Roundup WeatherMAX on perennial grasses and dandelions if 60% or more of the plant matter is still green and actively growing. Apply Roundup WeatherMAX until a damaging frost of -5°C. If frost damage is suspected, wait 2 - 3 days to see if the plants recover before spraying.
What happens to weed control if the weeds are covered with dust?
Reduced control may occur when weeds are heavily covered with dust. This is an important consideration when planning a post-planting application.
The weather forecast calls for showers but I'm pressed for time. Is Roundup WeatherMAX effective if a rain occurs shortly after spraying?
Field trials have shown Roundup WeatherMAX gave control of quackgrass when 1/4 inch (6mm) of rainfall was received 30 minutes after application. Quackgrass control was better with Roundup WeatherMAX than either Roundup Ultra or Touchdown. Although Roundup WeatherMAX provides the best rainfastness of all non-selective herbicides available today, the rainfastness period can vary as it is affected by growing conditions, weed species and the amount of rain. For Roundup Ultra and Roundup Dry, heavy rainfall within two hours after application may require a repeat treatment.
How can I minimize potential spray drift?
Avoid spraying in windy or gusty conditions when winds are above 8 km/hr. Choose spray nozzle and sprayer pressure settings in combinations which avoid very fine spray particles.
Responsible herbicide use is everyone's job. By using Roundup WeatherMAX within its recommended use patterns and guidelines, you will help ensure that Roundup WeatherMAX remains a useful crop protection management tool.
Safety Precautions: Even though Roundup WeatherMAX is practically non-toxic to people and animals, use care and proper safety equipment when handling and applying Roundup.
NOTE: * Please note if using Roundup Transorb or Roundup Original you must increase the rate by 1/3. For example if it is recommended to use 1.0 litre of WeatherMAX or Ultra you would use 1.5 litres of Transorb or Original
