Post-Harvest

You have the power to make next year better! The answer is to start now - with Roundup WeatherMAX™ * herbicide post-harvest. The power of Roundup WeatherMAX gives you the best, most consistent control of perennial weeds. Control Canada thistle, Dandelion, Quackgrass and Foxtail barley to get next year's crops off to a cleaner, better start. And as a bonus, you control winter annuals too, conserving soil moisture for the crop.

You can even apply Roundup WeatherMAX after frost. Even after temperatures as low as -8° Celsius, Roundup WeatherMAX is still the herbicide that works harder and smarter. With Roundup WeatherMAX, you have the power to make next year better!

Roundup WeatherMAX Has The Power... Even After Frost
The power of Roundup WeatherMAX lets you control perennial weeds even after frosts as low as -8°C. Now you have the flexibility to control perennial weeds later into the fall and the power to get even better control - for a better start next year.

  1. Wait at least 2 days for the plants to recuperate and then check for frost damage. Make sure to check all areas of the field as low-lying areas tend to receive more frost than higher ground.
  2. If frost occurs, ensure weeds are actively growing - at least 60% of the plant must be green for Roundup WeatherMAX to work effectively.

Control Winter Annuals, Too
Post-harvest is also a great time to control winter annuals such as narrow-leaved hawksbeard, stinkweed, or shepherd's purse. If you direct seed, you'll get your crop off to a cleaner, quicker and better start.

Quackgrass

Excellent quackgrass control can be obtained with a post-harvest application of Roundup WeatherMAX in the fall to get your crop off to a clean start next spring.

Roundup WeatherMAX herbicide provides the best, most consistent control of quackgrass. With post-harvest application, excellent control hinges on adequate weed growth after harvest.

Here's how to get the best control:

  1. Cut stubble as high as possible to leave as many plant leaves as possible.
  2. Spread straw and chaff adequately to leave plants exposed.
  3. Spray when new plant growth is evident or when enough leaves are present, depending on the weed species.
  4. After swathing or straight combining, apply Roundup at 0.67 litres per acre when adequate growth is present - 6-8 inches of green growth with a minimum of 3 to 4 fully expanded leaves. Use up to 2 litres per acre for heavier manifestations.

Dry weather conditions?
Don't let perennial weeds survive in dry conditions - they are rooted deep into subsoil moisture - control them with Roundup WeatherMAX!

Canada Thistle

Post-harvest application of Roundup WeatherMAX is a powerful way to manage Canada thistle populations. By controlling Canada thistle in the fall, early season competition is eliminated. That's better than waiting to control Canada thistle with a post-emergent when moisture, nutrients and ultimately yield have already been lost.

Roundup WeatherMAX herbicide provides the best, most consistent control of Canada thistle.

  4. Apply 1.33 litres of Roundup WeatherMAX per acre to Canada thistle that have three or more leaves of new growth after harvest. Wait at least 2 weeks after swathing or straight cutting for adequate regrowth.

Dandelion

Dandelion has proven to be a troublesome weed in reduced tillage operations. A post-harvest application of Roundup WeatherMAX controls dandelion in the fall, saving moisture and nutrients - to get the crop off to a better start next spring.

Roundup WeatherMAX herbicide provides the best, most consistent control of dandelion.

  4. After swathing or straight combining, apply Roundup WeatherMAX when adequate leaf growth is present. Apply 1.0 to 1.33 L of Roundup WeatherMAX per acre for dandelions greater than 6 inches in diameter.
  5. Dandelions germinate readily from seed. A pre-seeding Roundup burn-off in the spring may be needed to control new seedlings.

Foxtail Barley

Foxtail barley is rapidly becoming a problem weed in direct seeding systems in some areas. Research at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at Lethbridge has shown that a post-harvest application of Roundup WeatherMAX, followed up by a spring pre-seed burn-off is an excellent way to take control of this tough, perennial weed.

Roundup WeatherMAX herbicide provides the best, most consistent control of foxtail barley. With post-harvest application, excellent control hinges on adequate weed growth after harvest.

  3. Spray when new plant growth is evident or when enough leaves are present, depending on the weed species.
  4. After swathing or straight combining, apply Roundup WeatherMAX at 0.67-1.33 litres per acre when new tillers appear indicating the plants are actively growing. Use higher rates for heavier infestations. Treatment in the spring with 0.33 to 0.67 L per acre may be necessary to control seedlings.
