Insect Resistance Management

The risk of insect resistance is real but may be reduced with proper planning. To help preserve the effectiveness and benefits of Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) technology, farmers are required to follow an Insect Resistance Management (IRM) plan. Growers must read the Technology Use Guide prior to planting for details on planting a refuge and other requirements of the IRM Plan.

With the introduction of Genuity™ SmartStax™, minimum refuge requirements for all Bt corn products are no longer the same.  The Canadian Corn Pest Coalition (CCPC) has created a chart with the refuge requirements for all APPROVED Bt corn products.
